Vacationing Out Of One’s Mind

….Thanks to Charlie Pierce for this apt phrase….

Here’s a bit of ‘setting the scene’ as TBOGG would say:

A female assistant works for a dentist for about 10 years when he suddenly wakes up to the fact that she is ATTRACTIVE, oops make it TOO ATTRACTIVE and not only that, she is a THREAT: wait, what you ask…yup, threat indeed, to his marriage. So he fires her, she sues him for discrimination and he testifies to the court that the firing was not due to performance but due to her attractiveness. And the court rules……

The Court wrote:

“It is abundantly clear that a woman does not lose the protection of our laws prohibiting sex discrimination just because her employer becomes sexually attracted to her, and the employer’s attraction then becomes the reason for terminating the woman once it, in some way, becomes a problem for the employer. If a woman is terminated based on stereotypes related to the characteristics of her gender, including attributes of attractiveness, the termination would amount to sex discrimination because the reason for termination would be motivated by the particular gender attribute at issue.”

Despite this admission, the justices claimed Nelson was fired not because of gender attributes but because of facts surrounding her relationship with Knight, including several comments he made about her clothing and the fact that the two would text each other outside of work hours.

So if a woman is attractive and her married boss makes comments about her clothing and texts her outside of work hours, he is RIGHT to fire her!

D’oh de dum da, d’uh de dum da, d’uh de dum da, d’uh de dum da, d’uh de dum da….

Come All Ye, Join The Chorus…

On November 3, 2010, I wrote a post titled: “English Speaking Idiots”

…..I grew up holding the USA with great awe. I always thought that a country where English is the main language people would be much better informed and have deeper sense of awareness for after all, there is no language barrier.

But I guess not!. It doesn’t matter about the language or awareness, once a person is determined to remain an idiot, taking great pride in being so, there is nothing much the great and tireless leaders can do about it. These English speaking idiots would readily poke their two eyes to harm one eye of their neighbour’s. Well folks, you made your bed of roses or whatever, so good luck to you! If you are willing to cut your noses to spite your faces, who am I to stop you. I ‘ll be here sitting above you all, watching your gridlock with greater sadness for what it could have been….

Today, John Cole at The Balloon Juice:

Hell, if I lived next door to a bunch of heavily armed, loud, drunken rednecks and religious nuts who’ve shown no regard for the law or other people’s property and think know-nothing yahoos like Sarah Palin have leadership potential, I’d be a touch nervous too. Canadians don’t have a chip on their shoulder. They’ve just got a degree of common sense that eludes your average American.

Andrew Sullivan at The Atlantic:

What we’ve observed these past two years is a political party that knows nothing but scorched earth tactics, cannot begin to see any merits in the other party’s arguments, refuses to compromise one inch on anything, and has sought from the very beginning to do nothing but destroy the Obama presidency. I see no other coherent message or strategy since 2008. Just opposition to everything, zero support for a president grappling with a recession their own party did much to precipitate, and facing a fiscal crisis the GOP alone made far worse with their spending in the Bush-Cheney years. There is not a scintilla of responsibility for their past; not a sliver of good will for a duly elected president. Worse, figures like Cantor and McCain actively seek to back foreign governments against the duly elected president of their own country, and seek to repeal the signature policy achievement of Obama’s first two years, universal healthcare.

ALAS Indeed!

One More Before I Let It Go

One of my favourite bloggers Josh Marshall at TPM writes,

Shame on Obama?

For progressives mad at their president, at some level, that’s understandable. They have no relationship with and expect only the worst from the Breitbarts and Fox Newses of the world. But with Obama they expect more. And it’s personal.

Still, you just have to back up from that and realize that as disappointing as Tom Vilsack’s first crack at this was, the idea that he or Obama is the bad guy in this story is not only preposterous but verging on obscene.

As an author of the post, ‘Shame On You, President Obama!”, and as a progressive, I will respond to Josh’s comment on ‘ Obama is the bad guy in this story is not only preposterous but verging on obscene’.

Josh, you are right in that we expect a lot more from President Obama and his administration. Not only the  progressives but all those who wanted to change the direction the great USA was heading to, are guilty of this.  However, calling out President Obama by saying ‘Shame on You’ on this incident does not mean he is the bad guy, it means he (his standard) is slipping and needs to be pulled up.

By the way, this was the standard that President Obama set for himself ……….

President Obama to Ed Henry: “It took us couple of days because I like to know what I’m talking about before I speak.”

……….and to learn that White House stood behind Tom Vilsack in his wrongful action was unacceptable and we had to call him out on that.

Further, Mrs. Sherrod’s personal journey is so inspiring and akin the various values he extolls all the time in his inspiring speeches and to know that his White House stood behind this was a shame in that it was a morally wrong, totally unnecessary and utterly wasteful cycle of events.

Somebody, Anybody Give Tapper A Pulitzer Already

What a wonderful piece of journalism by Jake Tapper!. Somebody, anybody give him a Pulitzer already, yes for the Tweet category!!

Think Progress reports:

UPDATE ABC’s Jake Tapper tweets, “Meanwhile, POTUS and VP Biden are golfing today…” The Hill reports.

This is his masterpiece tweet with regard to the news about:

BP PLC Chief Executive Tony Hayward was spotted attending a prestigious yacht race Saturday, as his company deflects criticism for its handling of one of the worst environmental disasters in U.S. history.

Hayward was spotted by photographers on his yacht, “Bob,” which was competing at the JP Morgan Asset Management Round the Island Race off the Isle of Wight.

A BP spokesperson said that Hayward was “spending some time with his teenage son after devoting most of the past two months away from family.” In an interview taped for ABC’s This Week, White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel called Hayward’s attendance at the race “part of a long line of PR gaffes and mistakes.”

See, Tony Hayward going yatching after a wretched performance at The Hill is the same as POTUS & VPOTUS going golfing especially after the wretched performance of getting a 20Billlion escrow fund from BP.

Senator Bunning, Bummer Extraordinaire

Talking Points Memo reports:

Sen. Jim Bunning (R-KY) is already infamous for blocking a temporary extension of unemployment and COBRA benefits for out of work Americans. But included in that package is legislation to prevent a mandatory pay cut for doctors–and by standing in its way, he’s triggered a 21 percent fee reduction to doctors seeing Medicare patients starting today.
